It’s nearly 6100 miles as the crow flies between here and Tsubame, Japan, but as sister cities, Sheboygan and Tsubame are erasing that gap with the first visit from that city in 13 years.
Sheboygan families are hosting three chaperones and four students today through August 6th to celebrate 28 years of partnership and shared values, beginning with a tree planting ceremony at 1:00 this afternoon. Seven Halesia Carolina U.Conn Wedding Bell trees will be planted on the west side of North 3rd Street, across from Peace Park at 3rd and Michigan. The event is meant to honor the shared values and friendship between the two cities, while underscoring a commitment to a greener, more connected world.
The delegation will be enjoying a typical busy Sheboygan summer weekend as both Brat Days and the Coho Derby coincide with the visit. The Tsubame delegation will also be acknowledged at Monday’s Common Council meeting at City Hall.
