A Random Lake teen isn’t going down quietly after making an unsuccessful run for the Teen Mullet Champion competition last year. Ryan Klumb is entering the contest this year as the “Salmon Slayer” after adopting the moniker of the “Lady Lure” in the 2023 contest, continuing the referral to his love of fishing.
The contest is run by Mullet Champ-dot-com, which donates the funds raised to “Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors”, (JAH4WW) a nonprofit foundation that provides mortgage-free accessible homes to critically-wounded combat Veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Last year it raised over $1.2 million dollars for its cause.
Ryan Klum said that he first started growing his mullet before Covid shut down most activities around the world in 2020. Before that, he said, he wasn’t able to get in for a trim & couldn’t stand the bangs in his eyes, so he shaved it off. After what he called “instant regret”, he’s been growing back his hair ever since.
Voting is done via the internet and is open for the qualifying round until July 17th. After that the top 100 will be chosen, narrowed down to the top 25, with the winners announced on August 28th.
