An awareness effort addressing invasive species will go grass-roots for the next week-and-a-half. That’s when the Great Lakes Landing Blitz to raise awareness of invasive species takes place, and Sheboygan will be among 43 other Wisconsin counties hosting the effort. The local lakes participating are Lake Ellen, Lake Michigan, Little Elkhart Lake, Jetzers Lake, Crystal Lake and Gerber Lakes.
The Blitz, which began on Wednesday and ends July 6th, is a collaboration of all Great Lakes states and provinces to educate boaters that simple clean-up steps and draining water from the boat and live wells can help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. Volunteers and invasive species prevention partners will be greeting boaters at landings and access points across the state to share information on how to prevent the spread of invasives while enjoying the waters.
