SAN DIEGO, CA (WHBL) – The Milwaukee Brewers got walked-off by the Padres 7-6 in their series opener from San Diego on Thursday night.
The Brewers trailed by two in the ninth inning until Christian Yelich scored on a wild pitch and Rhys Hoskins doubled home a run to tie the game.
However, Joel Payamps served up the game-winning homer with two outs in the bottom half of the frame to Jake Cronenworth.
That homer made walk-off history in San Diego. It came after the Padres had closed their previous homestand by winning consecutive games against Oakland with walk-off home runs. In the process, the Padres became the first team in baseball history to hit a walk-off home run in the ninth inning in three consecutive home games, according to STATS.
Despite the loss, Milwaukee still leads the NL Central at 44-31.
Game two of the four game series is set for Friday night with pregame coverage on WHBL beginning at 8:05.
