Charles R. Heusterberg, 89, of Sheboygan, passed away Tuesday evening, June 18, 2024, at the Shores of Sheboygan surrounded by his family.
Born May 19, 1935, in Sheboygan, Charles was a son of the late John and Myra Pohland Bussin. He attended Sheboygan area schools and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1954. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1960-1963. On March 27, 1971, he was united in marriage to Darlene M. Thimmig at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Charlie was a woodworker for R-Way Furniture, Nemschoff, and Quasius Contract Furniture in Sheboygan for many years until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of Luther Memorial Church. He was a true craftsman and took great pride in his woodworking projects, always paying attention to the smallest details. He also enjoyed traveling and visiting with his grandson. He will always be remembered for his jokes and sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Darlene; his daughter, Julie (Kurt) Schmidt; his grandson, Dylan Schmidt; nephew and nieces, Jon Renzelman, Denise (Phil) Aigner and Terry Renzelman; great nieces and nephews, Nola, Nate, Emily and Abby; other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his uncle and aunt, Roy and Laurette Pohland; brothers-in-law, Richard and Ronald Thimmig; and his sister-in-law, Shirley (Jerry) Renzelman; and a nephew, Patrick Gerhold.
A memorial service for Charlie will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Luther Memorial Church, 1127 Eisner Avenue, Sheboygan. The Rev. Adam Barkley will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place in the Chapel of Eternal Light.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of The Shores of Sheboygan and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Charlie’s arrangements.
