Graduation ceremonies for seniors in the Sheboygan Area School District were scrubbed on Saturday after rainy conditions initially forced a delay until later in the day. Communications Coordinator for the SASD, Nichole Sondalle, sent a message out around 10 a.m. Saturday, pushing the start time of ceremonies to 4:30 p.m. yesterday, citing wet, unsafe conditions at Vollrath Bowl, the traditional site of the commencement.
But by 2:30 p.m. it became apparent that the delay would still not allow the hundreds of graduating seniors and their families to gather for the event, and by 3 p.m. a new announcement was sent, reading in part: “Due to the ongoing rain, the conditions at Vollrath Bowl will not allow us to hold the ceremony safely today. We know how important it is for students and families to participate in the treasured tradition of ‘walking the bowl,’ so we will move the ceremony to Sunday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Vollrath Park.”
Five Sheboygan Area School District high schools; Central High School, Etude High School, George D. Warriner High School, North High School and South High School, will be present as graduating seniors participate in the traditional procession and receive their diplomas.
Those unable to attend ceremonies can view the events on the SASD’s YouTube page here. The District will also record the ceremony for later viewing on YouTube.
