Cory Roeseler retired on Monday as Sheboygan County’s 56th Sheriff, an office he’s held since being elected in 2018. In his announcement on Facebook, Roeseler thanked everyone who supported him as Sheriff over the past 7 years, but his history with the department goes back much further than that.
Roeseler began as a Deputy with the Sheriff’s Office in 1991, and was promoted to Corporal in 2000. He was promoted to Detective the next year, while also spending several years as an undercover narcotics officer. Roeseler was promoted to Lieutenant of Criminal Investigations in 2004 and to Captain of Patrol in 2006, while also assuming responsibility for the Criminal Investigations Division. Prior to serving with Sheboygan County, Roeseler, a Kiel native, began as a part-time officer with that city’s Police Department before becoming a Deputy with Columbia County in 1990.
Pending official verification from the Governor Captain Matt Spence will be the interim Sheriff until the fall election.
