Joseph “Joe” Robert Hemauer, 72, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on June
1, 2024 surrounded by family at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
He was born on February 4, 1952, a son of the late Robert F. and Lorena (Cordy)
Hemauer. Joe graduated from New Holstein High School in 1970 and then
attended UW Eau Claire for Music Education and Speech Pathology.
In 1972, Joe married the love of his life, Sylvia Andrews, in Plymouth, WI and
shortly thereafter, in 1975, purchased a dairy farm which he operated for 43
years. Throughout his years farming, Joe was most known for his mentorship and
teaching skills; hosting many international dairy trainees and developing
numerous employees, including his children, two of whom now work in the
agriculture industry. Later in life, Joe provided consulting for other dairy farmers
who valued his industry knowledge and wisdom.
Joe had a very strong faith, loved his family, was an avid gardener, and lover of
woody plants and trees. Joe also enjoyed music and traveling. One of his favorite
trips was to Rome in 2003, where Joe and Sylvia were part of the Milwaukee
Archdiocesan Choir and had the opportunity to sing in a private audience for Pope
John Paul II.
Joe was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church in Eden.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia; his children, Melissa Rose of Hudson, WI,
Nicholas (Maggie) Hemauer of Weston, WI, Angela Hemauer Keyser of Lake
Tahoe, NV, and Jessica (George) Schmuke of Anchorage, AK; twelve
grandchildren, Sophia Huber, Olivia Huber, Julia Hemauer, Fiona Huber, Caleb
Hemauer, Teicko Joseph “TJ” Huber, Henry Nelson Keyser V, Ezra Huber, Juliana
Schmuke, Cecilia Keyser, Acton Schmuke, and Gabriella Keyser; his siblings, Mary
Hoerth, Ellen (Keith) Enstrom, Arlene (Mark) Boll, Barbara (Paul) McCarthy, Bob
(Cindy) Hemauer, and Greg Hemauer; brothers-in-law, David (Tamie) Andrews
and Kevin (Kathy) Andrews; sisters-in-law, Lynn Bittner, Lorena McKerrow, and
Claudia Andrews.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends,
including Dario Ramos of Upstate New York, a former international dairy trainee
and dear friend.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Hemauer; sister,
Elizabeth Bittner; and brothers-in-law, Stephan Bittner, Tedd Traxinger, and Gene
Hoerth.
Visitation will be held on Monday (June 10, 2024) at the Suchon Funeral Home in
Plymouth from 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM; with a time of reading the eulogy and a prayer
at 6:30 PM.
Visitation will continue Tuesday (June 11 th ) at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic
Church, W1562 Co Rd B, Eden, WI 53019 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM; with a
memorial mass to follow at 11:00 AM. Father Mark Jones will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church,
the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, or the American Cancer Society in
memory of Joe.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Milwaukee and
West Bend Froedtert Hospitals Cancer Care, Sharon S. Richardson Hospice, and
their many family, friends, and neighbors for all the support and compassion
provided over the last four and a half years.
