Outstanding academic performance has paid off for three graduating high school seniors just named as Scholars by Lakeland University. Ranaya Hayes-Jenkins of Sheboygan North High, and Savannah Present and Brynn Wisse, both of Oostburg High School, were selected by Lakeland to receive full-tuition scholarships to the University when they enter classes this fall. The scholar program is a competitive process designed to foster intellectual development and the professional networking and leadership skills of the next generation of Sheboygan County’s corporate, professional and civic leaders.
Ranaya Hayes-Jenkins plans to study graphic design and marketing. As a four-year cheerleader at North she won several team awards including most valuable and best GPA, received a Black Youth Award at Sheboygan’s Juneteenth celebration for her contributions to North’s Black Community Organization, and her award-winning artwork has been exhibited at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center.
Savannah Present plans to major in graphic design and take advantage of Lakeland’s Cooperative Education program to earn work experience for academic credit. Present, an honors student at Oostburg, has had a lifelong interest in design work that’s included animation work and personal design projects to go with media classes at school.
Brynn Wisse plans to major in elementary education to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher and working with children. Wisse was an honors student at Oostburg and earned all-conference honors in basketball and volleyball. Beyond that, During COVID, she created Brynn Taylor Designs, a custom home decor and sign business. She’s completed 285 orders and over 350 signs as a result.
The three comprise Lakeland’s 10th class of Sheboygan County Scholars.
