In an effort to forward the goal of clean air and eliminate potentially harmful emissions, the Sheboygan Area School District has received $100,000 towards the replacement of four school buses with an equal number of so-called “Clean School Buses”. Senator Tammy Baldwin announced Sheboygan Area’s as one of 24 Wisconsin School Districts to benefit from the EPA’s Clean School Bus Program, established under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
In her announcement, Baldwin said that the “Clean school buses are a win-win for the Wisconsin school districts and taxpayers who are saving money and for Wisconsin kids and communities who are breathing cleaner air.“
The program aims to replace existing school buses, which have been linked to asthma and other harmful health conditions, with zero- and low-emission buses. Clean school buses include zero-emission electric, as well as propane and compressed natural gas buses, which produce lower tailpipe emissions compared to their older diesel predecessors.
