A 36-year-old Mayville man has earned his 5th OWI charge after causing a three-vehicle crash in Washington County on Thursday.
Calls to the Washington County Dispatch Center reporting a reckless driver began arriving shortly after 11 a.m., indicating a white Ford car was heading south in excess of 100 mph, sometimes passing traffic on the shoulder. Eight minutes later the communications center received numerous calls reporting a multi-vehicle crash on State Highway 164 in the Village of Richfield, sending the State Patrol and Richfield Fire and Rescue to the scene.
Investigators there found three vehicles involved, with all operators escaping significant injuries. The Sheriff says that the driver of that Ford was the same reported on I-41. On Highway 164 he was operating left of center when he struck a northbound truck driven by a 54 year old Richfield resident, ripping off the front tire of that truck, which then struck another southbound vehicle driven by a 74-year-old from Richfield.
The 36-year-old Mayville man was transported from the scene for treatment, and was arrested for his 5th OWI offense and multiple other charges. The crash remains under investigation.
