Roman Robert Oldenburg, age 74, joined his departed family in eternal life on Saturday, May 11th with his surviving siblings at his side. He was born to the late Milton and Mabel (Panzer) Oldenburg on July 4, 1949. He attended Sheboygan South High School. During a time when most were being drafted, Roman voluntarily joined the Army knowing he would be serving in Vietnam. He proudly served his country from Aug 28, 1967, to May 24, 1974. After being honorably discharged he went to work for Kohler Company. He married Audrey (Schneider) Oldenburg on Oct. 23, 1987. He opted to retire early after thirty-seven years of service at Kohler. After retirement you would find him going for breakfast with his sister or his friends and tinkering in his garage.
Roman enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, camping, and going for motorcycle rides. Family often called on him to assist with projects or fix things given his talent with being handy. He could often be referred to as a grumpy old man since he was set in his ways though he just wanted to see everyone be the best them they could be. This was especially true of his children. You could call on Roman anytime day or night if you needed his help and he would head your way. Family gatherings you could see his generous heart and since of humor as he would often pick on the younger generations.
Roman was diagnosed with Dementia which caused him to slowly lose memories, and his ability to do the things that he loved. Heart breaking to witness many of his family continued to come visit and recall pass memories. As the disease slowly stole Roman away from his family they continued to come to visit, hoping to catch him having a good day so that they might get a smile and hi. Although all his family and friends will dearly miss him, we are rejoiced that he is now free from disease and no longer is in pain.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Audrey. Further survived by his eldest daughter, Carrie (Eric) Peaine. His son Milton (Mariah) Oldenburg, his two bonus daughters he always thought of as his own, Kathleen “Amber” (Ryan) Biro, and Jacque Bohrmueller (special friend Troy Selje). Grandchildren Bonnie Peaine, Meka Peaine (Tyler Reineking), Jeremiah Peaine, Abbigayle Oldenburg, Wesley Oldenburg, Warren Oldenburg, Annaliese Oldenburg, Hunter Dunn, and Burton Bohrmueller. Great grandchildren Zyla Peaine, Zion Peaine, and Zoey Peaine. His sister Sharon Duplechain, and brother Richard Oldenburg. His in-laws; Rosemary Oldenburg, Kaye Pinter, Judy & Mike Griffin, and Betty and Jene Knauer. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. All will dearly miss him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandsons Ryle Joseph Peaine and Anthony Dyllon Oldenburg, brother Raymond Oldenburg, in-laws Clem and Mary Schneider, brother in-laws Jessie Duplechain and Vern Pinter, sister-in-law Jean Oldenburg, his nephew Jessie Duplechian Sr, Jerry Schultze, and great nephew Brian Koch.
Special thank you to Pastor Matthew Shive from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church – Sheboygan, for the many visits sharing scripture and prayer with Roman. Gratitude to the staff working at Sheboygan Progressive Center especially his last day with them.
A funeral service for Roman will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th Street, Sheboygan with Pastor Matthew Shive officiating. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place in the Garden of Valor at Greenlawn Memorial Park in the Town of Sheboygan.
