Margaret E. Jagler, 97, a resident of Pine Haven Christian Community in Oostburg, passed away following a brief illness on Thursday evening, May 9, 2024 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice surrounded by her family.
Born July 20, 1926 in Milwaukee, WI, Margaret was a daughter of the late Merrill and Margaret Irish Hyde. She graduated from Wausau High School in 1944. She continued her education at the Bellin Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1947. She then worked as a nurse for two years before putting herself through Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH, graduating in 1953 with a BA in Psychology. On August 15, 1953, she was united in marriage to James R. Jagler at the First Methodist Church in Wausau.
Margaret worked as a registered nurse at St. Nicholas Hospital for a number of years before her retirement in 1980. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Sheboygan where she was in the handbell choir. She also went on 11 Methodist mission trips. She was very active in the community serving as a Girl Scout Leader, the Longfellow PTA, Meals on Wheels, the Red Cross Blood Bank and the food pantry for 30 years. She belonged to many clubs and organizations including the Wisconsin Old Cemetery Society, a Life Member of AAUW, The Sheboygan County Museum, Friends of the Mead Public Library, the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center and Bookworm Gardens. She and Jim traveled extensively to England, Europe. Thailand, Malaysia, Guatemala and many US destinations. She enjoyed keeping active by gardening, sewing, needlework and knitting, having made caps and mittens for donation. She also enjoyed genealogy research and documenting old cemeteries.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, James; her children, Sue (Leonard Grosso) Jagler, Kurt (fiancé Judy Rivest) Jagler and Sandra (Randall) Mau; six grandchildren, Sarah (Bryan) Zellmer, Kyle (Rebecca) Jagler, Leonard (Sarah Fieser) Grosso, Anthony Grosso, Alida Mau and Robert Mau; her great grandchildren, Brycen and Aubrey Jagler and Braelyn and Adalyn Zellmer; other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Merrill (Wilma) Hyde and her daughter-in-law, Brenda Jagler.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date.
Memorials in her name may be directed to Sheboygan County Meals on Wheels or the First Congressional Church.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Pine Haven Christian Community, St. Nicholas Hospital ICU and the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
