Two natural gas generating stations – one in Sheboygan Falls – have been green-lighted by the Wisconsin Public Service Commission for upgrades. Alliant Energy said improvements at the Falls facility, along with another in Neenah, will allow the company to expand generating capacity, gain greater fuel efficiency, lower operating costs, and increase the operating life of the generating stations.
Alliant said that the upgrades are also designed to ensure continued grid stability and reliability while creating a more resilient system as the company advances its Clean Energy Blueprint strategy.
Construction at both sites is expected to be done in two stages, the first in August of 2025, with the second likely beginning in mid-October next year. Once completed, both the Sheboygan Falls and Neenah generating stations’ capacities will be increased from 300, to 450 megawatts.
