A $126 million referendum by the Sheboygan Area School District is drawing organized opposition from the Sheboygan Taxpayers Alliance. The group announced on Sunday that it has launched the website UrbanMiddleSchool.com to let the community know what it thinks about the proposal to build a new Urban Middle School on Mill Road. Many living along that road have posted yard signs from the Alliance in opposition to using the long-empty site just north of the Pigeon River to host the school, citing issues with increased traffic, danger to pedestrians, and increased taxes among reasons for objecting to the plan.
The Alliance said they would rather see the District use land either on Taylor Drive or on school-owned property on North 15th Street near PLENCO as better alternatives. They’re urging people to show up at a 6:30 p.m. meeting on Thursday, May 16th at Urban to share their thoughts on the issue.
