Anita H. Hoogstra, 89, of Oostburg, entered the presence of her Savior Jesus after passing away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.
Anita was born on June 27, 1934, to Alfred and Jenette (Van Dyke) Smith in New Jersey. Anita was united in marriage to Robert Hoogstra on June 11, 1955, in Midland Park, New Jersey.
Anita enjoyed working as the executive secretary for the Passaic County Bar Association in Paterson, NJ for over 30 years. Anita was a long-standing member of Oostburg Christian Reformed Church. She made friends easily, always saw the best in people, and had a welcoming heart. Anita had a lot of empathy for other people, which she believed was a gift from God. She loved her family deeply and often expressed how blessed and grateful she felt.
Anita is survived by her children, Bob (Kathy) Hoogstra of North Muskegon, MI, Elaine (Wendell) Kappers of Oostburg, Ken (Lori) Hoogstra of Brown Deer; grandchildren, Jon (Wendy), Dave (Jenna) and Chris (Lizzie) Hoogstra, Josh (Jessie) Kappers, Taylor (Codie Keller) Kappers, Allison (Brady) Otte, Alex Kappers, Leah (Joseph McGuire) Hoogstra, Kristen (Connor) Gustafson; great-grandchildren, James Hoogstra, Evelyn, Luke, Joanna, and Sophie Hoogstra, Joshua Kappers, Bradlie Mae, Ellis, and August Otte, Lennon Gustafson, and Margot Kappers on the way; and her beloved dog, Sawyer. She is further survived by her brother, Al (Jeannette) Smith; sister-in-law, Elaine Freitag; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and brothers-in-law, William (Gertrude) Hoogstra, John (Jean) Hoogstra, and Wayne Freitag.
A memorial service to celebrate Anita’s life will be held at Oostburg CRC on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 11:00am. A livestream of the service can be viewed by visiting wenig.live/AnitaHoogstra. She will be laid to rest next to Bob at Oostburg Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may greet the family at Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Thursday, June 13, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm and again at church on Friday from 9:30am until the time of service.
Memorials are appreciated in Anita’s name to Oostburg Christian School Resource Room, OCS Building Fund, Oostburg CRC Building Fund, and Muskegon Christian School.
