Recent rounds of rain have saturated soils throughout the area, and that’s filled the Sheboygan River to its banks. Hydrologists with the National Weather Service say the gauge at Esslingengen Park has reached just over 6-1/2 feet, indicating that the river is “filled to the brim”. “Action” stage is the official term, and at 6 feet, minor lowland flooding can occur, and floodwaters are expected to cover some marina docks and piers in the Sheboygan area.
Minor flooding doesn’t happen until the river reaches 8 feet, which isn’t expected for now. While the river may reach a little higher – maybe near 7 feet, it should decline below action level by 7 a.m. on Saturday according to predictions. Officials will still keep a close eye on the Sheboygan River, though, as the greatest risk of approaching any flood stage in the near term looks to be a week or more away.
