A winter-like storm has given most of Wisconsin a fresh, white coating of snow, but eastern Sheboygan County was largely spared of the worst weather as the open waters of Lake Michigan kept most of the accumulating snow inland of the shore.
Roads did get slippery enough to send several vehicles into the ditch on Tuesday, but according to the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office there were no injuries to report. Roads early this Wednesday morning were noticeably better on the Wisconsin DOT’s 511 website where good winter driving conditions stood out of the crowd on I-43 in Sheboygan County, while nearly all the rest of the state experienced slippery stretches.
Snowfall was mostly an inch or so at best along the lakeshore while inland areas were the target of larger amounts nearing a half-foot in central Wisconsin locations. The National Weather Service in Milwaukee received numerous reports of large trees down in Beaver Dam, one of those initially trapping one person inside their car.
While a Winter Weather Advisory remained in effect until 1 p.m. today, only trace amounts of additional snow are expected near the lake, while up to an inch could still fall in the Kettle Moraine. Nonetheless, slick spots and brisk could keep driving conditions less-than-ideal through early afternoon.
