Lyle William Murton, was born on September 5, 1937, and passed away on December 10, 2023, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice at the age of 85. He is the son of William and Theresa Murton. He was born in Oshkosh and his family moved to Berlin during his middle school years. He graduated from Berlin High School Class of 1954. Lyle then enlisted in the Air Force in November of 1955 and served until November of 1959 and was stationed at Lake Charles Air Force Base in Louisiana. On April 19, 1958, he was united in marriage with Barbara Griffith. They celebrated 65 years of marriage in April of 2023. Together they had two daughters, Colleen and Lynn.
The family settled in Omro, WI after Lyle was discharged from the Air Force in 1959. He was employed with Speed Queen as a tool and die maker when they first moved there. He then changed employment to Wisconsin Power & Light starting in 1965 out of the Baraboo area. They relocated to Prairie du Sac at that time. Then starting in June of 1966 the family relocated to Berlin where he worked out of the Berlin office. In 1979, Barb and Lyle moved to Madison, WI, where Lyle completed his 30 years with Wisconsin Power & Light. His most significant work just prior to his retirement at Wisconsin Power & Light was the creation and development of gas marketing programs.
Lyle was active in the Omro and Berlin Jaycees. He was President of the Green Lake County ARC and served with a large number of community organizations.
Lyle was an avid and skilled woodworker. He enjoyed many years of fishing and fly fishing was one of his greatest pleasures in his free time. His other favorite hobbies included reading murder mysteries, and hunting and golfing in his younger years.
Lyle is survived by his wife Barbara; daughters Coleen (Robert III) Sonnenshein and Lynn (Ron) Bitney; grandsons Christopher (Satomi) Warren, Adria (Natay) Warren and Shaun Bitney; great grandchildren Hunter Warren, Hazel Warren and Ivy Taylor. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, David (Rae) Griffith in Springfield, IL.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20th with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 623 Ontario Ave., Sheboygan, WI 53081. Cremation has already taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Lyle’s memory to Meals on Wheels which both Lyle and Barb served and supported for countless years.
