An initiative with the goal of planting a million trees by the year 2030 will send money to Sheboygan to achieve part of that goal right here. The “One Million Trees Initiative” is a partnership between the Alliant Energy Foundation and Trees Forever. The group selected 12 communities, including Sheboygan, from applicants across the state hoping for part of that fund. Sheboygan received the maximum amount of $5,000. The release says that the City will use the money for volunteer planting of trees in a County Park that was not named.
Through the initiative, Alliant Energy and Trees Forever help communities develop, select and plant a diverse mix of trees. A tree expert helps communities select the best species for the area, and creates care and maintenance plans to make sure the new trees have long, healthy lives.
