The National Weather Service said that the risk of wildfire is elevated in parts of southern and central Wisconsin today, while the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ “WISBURN” map indicates a high fire danger for the entire state.
NWS meteorologists say that the elevated fire weather condition is the result of breezy southwest winds, accompanied by low relative humidities in the 20-30% range. The humidity could drop even further if temperatures get a bit higher than expected.
The National Weather Service said that the highest danger of wildfire will occur primarily north and west of a line from Madison to Fond du Lac, however Sheboygan County could become breezy enough to generate higher concerns as well. They advise that, with the potential for outdoor fires to spread quickly in these conditions, any burning should either be done with extreme caution or delayed until conditions improve.
