Wisconsin Sixth District Congressman Glenn Grothman largely echoed his GOP colleagues after President Biden’s fourth State of the Union Address last night.
In a speech largely considered to be geared more towards election than policy, the President touted his job performance and defended his age, while criticizing Republicans over their approaches to the economy, taxes, immigration and more.
Following the address Congressman Grothman expressed surprise at Biden’s lack of initiatives to reduce the crisis at the southern border while criticizing executive actions by the President that allowed the flow of migrants to increase from 20,000 a month a few years ago to over 350,000 recently. Grothman stated, “We could return to these lower levels with President Biden reinstating some of the policies he unilaterally overturned, such as the Stay in Mexico policy and declaring an emergency at the border. However, he won’t do it.”
Grothman also took Biden to task on economics, stating that “he rattled off eight or nine new spending ramps, which will only drive us further into debt, inflation, and higher interest rates.” He also stated that “President Biden didn’t address the flaws in the American welfare system, which are significantly undermining the American family and eroding the country’s work ethic.”
The 6th District Congressman also characterized some elements, such as defending explicit library materials that Republicans oppose, and his support of the Pro Act that would mandate unionization votes within two weeks of filing, as being “meant for the public to misunderstand in order to advance partisanship.”
