A Saturday Night traffic stop by a Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Deputy resulted in a vehicle pursuit that led to gunshots directed at Sheriff’s officers, and eventually to the apparent suicide of one of the parties involved.
According to Sheriff’s Captain Matt Spence, the incident began with a traffic stop at 11:22 p.m. Sunday on State Highway 32 and County “FF” in the Town of Herman. During the traffic investigation the vehicle fled the scene, beginning a pursuit by investigating officers.
The vehicle was stopped a second time some 4 miles away near County Highway “M” and County Line Road in the Town of Herman. A passenger identified as a 25-year-old male exited the car and discharged his firearm several times at the officers and fled the scene on foot, while the operator left the scene in his vehicle. No officers were injured as a result, and no officer discharged their firearms during the incident.
In order to ensure the safety of responding officers, members of the Sheboygan County and Manitowoc Drone Teams were dispatched with heat-sensing cameras. A heat signature was located, and as the drones approached the area in question, a distant gunshot rang out. Officers then headed for the location the drones had identified and found the 25-year-old passenger dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Sheriff’s investigators believe that the vehicle’s operator is a 28-year-old black male identified as Mario Rezall Dajuan Doyle, Junior. While his vehicle has been located, Mario remains at large but is not believed to still be in Sheboygan County. The public is being asked to call their local law enforcement agency if they know of Mario’s whereabouts, and anyone encountering him should not approach hime, as he is considered dangerous, and instead call 9-1-1.
