Joan E. Kummer, 77, of Sheboygan, passed away early Monday morning, February 26, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born September 6, 1946, in Joliet, IL, Joan was a daughter of the late Stanley and Rebecca Freye Tomazevic. After Stanley’s death, she was adopted by Kenneth Fiebrink on April 5, 1960. She attended Pigeon River Grade School and graduated from North High School in 1964 and later received an associates degree. On August 2, 1969, she was united in marriage to Walter D. “Walt” Kummer at the First Presbyterian Church in Sheboygan. They were married for 40 years before Walt preceded her in death on October 1, 2009.
Joan worked as a buyer for R&B Wagner for many years until her retirement. She previously worked at Leer and First Interstate Bank. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sheboygan where she was a Sunday School teacher, Elder and currently serving as a Deacon. She also belonged to the Garden Club. She enjoyed spending time puttering in her garden and growing geraniums in her hobby greenhouse. She kept active by bowling at Lakeshore Lanes with her bowling team, Peggy, Jean, Donna, Barb, Nancy, Linda and Tammy. She loved to travel and vacation at Disney with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter Kristin (Ted) Hocevar, Sheboygan; her four grandchildren, TJ, Sam, Molly and Grant Hocevar; her two sisters, Leanne Brulla, Sheboygan, and Barbara (Michael) Zeller, Boise, ID; and her three sisters-in-law, Joan Fiebrink, Schertz, TX, Jan Kummer, Franklin, and Freda Kummer, Sheboygan. She is further survived by her special friend, Ann Grittinger; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her mother, Rebecca, her fathers, Stanley and Kenneth, and her husband, Walt, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Fiebrink; and her brother-in-law, Kenneth Brulla.
A Celebration of Life gathering will take place from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue, Sheboygan.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
