Sheboygan has been honored as the 2023 “Race Site of the Year” by P1 Offshore, the organization behind last year’s inaugural powerboat racing event.
Stuart Halle of P1 was at Monday’s Common Council meeting to confer the award decided during P1’s Annual Meeting. The award was given based upon excellence in overall production including insurance, officiating, participation and support from teams, local and regional event marketing and publicity, and inclusion into the APBA and venue marketing and promotion for the pre, on-site and post events.
The committee deciding between the three finalists in the professional division noted that after reviewing all submissions, comparing statistics and weighing results, it became clear that Sheboygan’s event excelled. Halle said that Sheboygan “checked all the boxes”, making Sheboygan an easy choice. It’s the first time the organization has given the Race Site of the Year award to a new host with their inaugural event.
Halle said that the honor was well-deserved, from the kernel of an idea to the complete, well-produced, marketed, and publicized event. He said that the commitment, dedication, and the host of volunteers that accomplished the feat can be seen as reasons that Sheboygan deserved the honor.
P1 will return again this year, with the second annual event scheduled for August 9-11.
