James Lawrence “Doc” Schirmer,76, Of Plymouth, WI, passed away early Saturday morning (February 3, 2024) at Rocky Knoll Health Care Facility
where he had been a resident for the past 2 years. He was born on April 11, 1947, in Plymouth,
WI, son of Anton and Barbara (Buechel) Schirmer. While in the Air Force, he met Sarah
Rebecca Fulk, and they were married at St. Fridolin Catholic Church in Glenbeulah on
November 7, 1970. They went on to have one daughter.
Jim attended Plymouth Elementary School and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1965.
He served in the United States Air Force from Sept 1965 – Sept 1969, serving in the Vietnam
War. Jim was employed at Donovan Construction, Plymouth Utilities, and for seventeen years
with Wisconsin Power and Light, retiring in November of 1994. Jim’s hobbies were many, but
none more loved than hunting and keeping up on the activities of his granddaughter. He spent
many years devoted to various community and veteran organizations where he often volunteered.
Jim was a member of Walter Gilles American Legion Post # 484 of Glenbeulah and Kiel VFW
Post #6707. He also belonged to the Rhine Field and Stream Conservation Club, the Wild
Turkey Federation, and the NRA.
Many will remember Jim for his fun-loving spirit and willingness to always lend a hand to
friends and strangers alike. He was loved by many and is survived by his daughter, Jessica (Jay)
Davis of Zionsville, IN; granddaughter, Alexis Brooke Podgers of Zionsville, IN; sisters, Susan
Bulin of Plymouth, Yvonne (Steven) Bales of Wilkesboro, NC, and Antoinette (Warren)
DeMunck of Glenbeulah. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and many
friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother-in-law, Robert Bulin, and two
nephews, William Bulin and Steven Bales.
Per Jim’s wishes, cremation has occurred, and a prayer service will be held
on Sunday (February 11, 2024) at 12:00 Noon at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Father
Subi Thomas, pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake will officiate.
Inurnment will be in St. Thomas Aquinas North Cemetery in Elkhart Lake.
Friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth on Sunday (February 11) from 10:00
A.M. until the time of services.
The Gilles-Weiss American Legion Post # 484 in Glenbeulah will conduct military
rites following the services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Jim’s name.
The Suchon Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Plymouth is serving his family.
