While the past month’s storms and cold spell seemed to put us back on track for a real winter, Sheboygan County’s January turned out to be well above the normal temperatures. There was a record low of 10 below recorded on the 16th, and record-high 37s were seen on three occasions. After everything was added up, though, the average high we experienced matched the normal for the month at 26.9 degrees, but nighttime lows averaged 7.2 degrees warmer than usual, making Sheboygan County’s average January temperature 3.6 degrees warmer than usual.
While January can be a snowy month, ours was restricted mostly to the second week when a storm dumped anywhere from about 8 to 12 inches of snow, followed by the bitter cold. In terms of moisture, we ended up 8 hundredths of an inch above normal.
Looking ahead, forecasters say February is very likely going to be warmer and drier than usual here, as well as across much of the northern half of the nation.
