An apartment complex on the 600 block of Sheboygan’s South Pier Drive suffered damage when fire struck in the noon hour on Thursday. Emergency dispatch got a call reporting smoke coming from a fireplace just before 12:30 yesterday, and Sheboygan Firefighters were there within 5 minutes.
The first crews on the scene located fire within a wall above the fireplace in a first floor unit. That wall had to be opened both inside and outside the structure in order for the fire to be extinguished. Putting out the fire, confirming there were no remaining hot spots, investigation and cleanup took about 2-1/2 hours. There were no injuries, no one was displaced, and damage was estimated at $10,000.
