Lloyd TerMaat is officially a “Hometown Hero” following ceremonies honoring the Cedar Grove resident on Thursday at the State Capitol in Madison. TerMaat, who is 80 years old, is still doing what he has for 40 years: collecting beds, dressers, kitchen tables, chairs, cribs, and other items donated in Sheboygan County, and delivering them to families in need throughout Milwaukee. The “Trailer Ministry” he began, and continues with help from fellow members of the First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove and other volunteers (see list below), was described by State Assemblyman Terry Katsma as an example of “generosity, devotion, and care for others (that) will be an inspiration to us all.” Katsma nominated TerMaat for the honor that was conferred during Thursday’s Assembly Session.

For his part, TerMaat said in addressing the Wisconsin Assembly, “I am grateful that God has given me good health so I am able to continue helping others. It’s an honor to be recognized, The ministry would not be possible without the support of our community.”
