James S. Champeau, age 62, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 15, 2024, at his
home.
He was born in Sheboygan on October 16, 1961, to the late Richard and Carol (Gandre)
Champeau. James enlisted in the United States National Guard at a young age and served for
many years. On November 3, 1990, James was united in marriage to Cheryl Berkholtz. He was a
model worker at RCS, retiring in September of 2023.
He enjoyed watching the cars drive by while listening to country music, cheering for the Green
Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers, playing cards (especially cribbage with his dad),
Suduko and the lottery. He was always there to help his neighbors, doing whatever it is they
needed. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
James is survived by his wife, Cheryl; his daughters, Joni (Jose) Ramos and Lisa (Dustin) Jackson;
grandchildren, Vanessa, Ethan, Gabriela, Casey, and Nico; siblings, Cathy (Dan) Taubenheim,
Michael Champeau, Mark (fiancé Jody) Champeau and Joseph Champeau; nieces, nephews,
other family and friends.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Thomas
Champeau and his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Jean Berkholtz.
A Funeral Service for James will take place at 1:00 PM at Ballhorn Chapels Funeral & Cremation
Care Center, 1201 N 8 th St. in Sheboygan with Pastor James Hollister officiating. Family will greet
visitors at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. James will be
laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in James’s name.
