Harvey Henry Oemig, 79, passed peacefully to eternal rest on January 6, 2023 at his Sheboygan residence with loved ones by his side. He was born on February 6, 1944 in Chippewa Falls, to Lottie & John Oemig.
His early life was that of farming, helping care for animals and “learning the meaning of hard work” as he would say. At age 18, he was drafted to the U.S. Army and would go on to serve proudly in the Vietnam War. He continued to serve and would retire from the military as a staff sergeant. Harvey was united in marriage to the love of his life, Rosalie M. Reinke, on June 26, 1971 in Milwaukee, WI. He spent nearly 35 years in the auto manufacturing industry between Wisconsin and Indiana, dating back to ‘the times of American Motors’ in Kenosha. He retired in Indianapolis, IN from the Daimler Chrysler foundry.
He was a dedicated husband and father, known by all as a stern yet kind provider – a pillar of stability and a good ear to turn to. Family road trips were a staple over the years, along with cooking, an intense knowledge of history & keeping a garden and well-fed wildlife in his time living out in the country near Merrill, WI where he enjoyed his retirement to the fullest with grandchildren and then getting to send them away to relax.
Survivors include wife Rosalie; children, Josh (Maryann) Oemig, Willie Oemig, Rob (Kassidy) Oemig; sisters, Sheila, Joyce, Sally, and Connie (Bill); brothers, Chuck, Harley (Linda), Dwight; grandchildren, Travis, Ania, Theon, and Benny. He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew.
There will be a celebration of life in the summer that his family will make public in Sheboygan and a private memorial service in Merrill at Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery to follow later in the year. A special thanks to his Hospice Care providers, especially Mary and Preacher Joe for their help, kindness and guidance.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family. Condolences may be expressed online at www.reinboldfh.com.
