Joanne H. Wieseckel, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice following a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family. She was 81 years old.
Joanne was born October 30, 1942 in Plymouth, daughter of Norman L and Rita Gahagan Platz. She was a 1960 graduate of Elkhart Lake High School and attended the Sheboygan County Teacher’s College, and taught locally until starting her family. She later worked for the Sheboygan Falls School District in food service.
On July 17, 1963 Joanne was married to Gary Wieseckel; they were married 48 years and had five children together.
Joanne was a member of Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls, and was on the prayer chain for many years. She was a founding, and longtime member of the Sheboygan Falls Jaycettes.
An avid knitter, Joanne enjoyed creating prayer shawls for the church, baby blankets and gift baskets. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy; she lived through their joy, and love spending time with them in all their pursuits. She was a beloved “aunt” to countless people, and kept a pulse on what everyone was doing.
She was an incredibly strong and independent woman, who leaves behind a beautiful legacy for her family.
Joanne is survived by her children: Jill (Robert) Burkard of Oconomowoc, Joel (Dianne) Wieseckel of Sussex, David (Linda) Wieseckel of Las Vegas and Matthew (Kristen) Wieseckel of Madison; twelve grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sister Carol (Dick) Greger of Sheboygan; brother Roger Platz of Sheboygan Falls; former brothers and sisters-in-law: Janet Voigt, Carol Bork and John (Ann) Wieseckel; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Patrick Wieseckel and her former husband Gary.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate Joanne’s life will be held at 11:30AM on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls with Father Jonathon Schmeckel officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church on Friday from 9:00AM-11:15AM. Inurnment will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Sheboygan Falls.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice or Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic.
