“Something as rare as a December snow” sounds like a phrase from somewhere south of the Mason-Dixon Line, but it seems to apply even in Sheboygan County in 2023. December has been very November-like so far, with temperatures running more than 10 degrees (10.34) above average. We ought to average out to about 26 degrees between all the normal highs and lows so far, and if that were the case, the precipitation that fell so far could have translated to over a foot of snow. As is, it was pretty much all rain, and at 1.32 inches, that’s an 8th of an inch more than usual.
Forecasters are starting to see signs of snowfall that could occur as early as overnight, but around here the chances of anything white…instead of wet…will be west of the Kettle Moraine between 5 and 8 a.m. on Thursday, while a light mix will be likely for everyone through the afternoon. As of right now, it looks like any snow will be more of a nuisance than a problem, with flakes out of the forecast after Friday morning.
As for the rest of the year…nothing big on the horizon except for some nice cold water for the polar bear plunge on New Year’s Day at Deland Park, where the water is running at a brisk 37 degrees.
