A crash on I-43 closed that busy road for hours in Manitowoc County on Monday. The mid-afternoon accident forced traffic to detour both the north and southbound lanes for around six hours while the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office investigated the wreck. Timing was about as unfortunate as it comes with countless numbers of people traveling back home from Christmas Day gatherings. Travelers had to bypass the interstate between Newton and Cleveland, more than doubling the usual time and distance using normally-quiet county roads along with State Highway 42.
No information on the nature of the crash or number of vehicles involved was available, with the only update that of reopening the road at 9:30 last night. The crash remains under investigation.
