MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Mask requirements are back in place at Madison hospitals.
Dr. Jeff Pothof with UW Health says rising numbers of flu, COVID-19, and respiratory illnesses are behind the temporary policy change.
“These are some really simple things that we can do to keep patients and staff safe while we have a lot of these viruses floating around in our community,” said Pothof. “And while they’re out there in high numbers we will mask up, and when they start to go down, then we won’t.”
Masks are not required in cafeterias, lobbies or administrative areas.
At UW, masks will be required in waiting and scheduling areas and exam rooms. UnityPoint – Meriter Hospital is also now requiring masks for everyone in patient rooms.
