An 84-year-old Town of Russel man died after falling into a fire while burning brush on Friday.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s office was called to the home in the northwest corner of the county at around 2:20 Friday afternoon after the man’s wife called and said he’d been badly burned. The man told deputies he fell into the fire, struggled to get up, and then jumped into a nearby pond. His wife found him in the basement, called 911, and flight for life was called to airlift the man to a burn center to be treated.
The Sheriff’s Department was notified on Saturday that he had passed away from his injuries.
