Mary Anne P. Jante, age 75, of the Town of Sheboygan, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at her home. She was born in Milwaukee on January 11, 1948, to the late Ervin and Ethel (Talatzko) Chybowski.
Mary attended Mercy High School in Milwaukee, graduating in 1966. She then furthered her education at Marquette University, earning her B.A. Degree in History and Speech. Mary also acquired her master’s degree from UW-Milwaukee in Curriculum and Instruction. Her career in education ranged from elementary to high school levels. Ultimately, she was employed at MATC (Milwaukee Area Technical College) first as an instructor and then as the Director of the Academic Support Centers on four campuses.
On October 28, 1972, she was united in marriage to Alan Jante at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in West Allis, a marriage that would last for fifty-one blessed years.
Mary was a current member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Sheboygan, a past member of the choir at St. Dominic Catholic Church and was the first school board president at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School in Sheboygan.
Survivors include her husband, Alan Jante, of Sheboygan; a son, Chris (Sarah) Jante, of Fredonia; two grandchildren, Lilly, and Lexi Jante; her sister, Joanne Metoff, of Waukesha; a niece, Sara (Geoff) Swosinski, of Franklin, WI; and her three nephews, Patrick (Jacque) Metoff, Mike Metoff, and Tim (Amanda) Metoff. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Robert Chybowski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 818 Huron Ave., Sheboygan with Fr. Mark Brandl officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place later at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Milwaukee.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to the Town of Sheboygan First Responders, and Sheboygan County Sheriff Deputy, Calvin Smith, for the compassion and care that was given to Mary. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mary’s name.
