The City of Sheboygan’s Finance and Personnel Committee has given a first nod of approval to a proposed development that should make a big dent in the ongoing housing shortage in the City.
Approval of the pre-development agreement with Reedsburg-based Pelton Builders aims to develop 274 acres the City acquired and annexed east of Moenning Road in the Town of Wilson last year, and incorporates an adjacent 73 acres previously purchased by the City.
The agreement, which still requires full Common Council approval, would secure an exclusive partnership with Pelton Builders, with the final project to become a self-sustaining neighborhood of 2,000 mixed-income units where people can find pretty much everything they need from small-scale retail stores within the site. The deal would be in effect until December 31st next year. By that time the City expects to receive final plans that will then go before the Common Council for approval.
