The 51st home project to be undertaken by Habitat for Humanity-Lakeside will begin with a wall-raising ceremony at 3 p.m. on Thursday. The ceremony at 822 Oakland Avenue is open to the public, and will feature representatives from Habitat, Drexel Building Supply, and future home buyer Adriana Hernandez Perez.
The home will be the second ADA-compliant household built by Habitat Lakeside, designed to accommodate future accessibility needs of the daughter, who lives with a degenerative muscular disease. The single story home will be set back far enough to eventually accept a ramp, and inside will have a roll-in shower, grab bars, wider doorways, suitable turning areas for a wheelchair, and an attached garage with alley entrance, becoming the first Habitat home to include a garage.
Groundbreaking occurred in November, and completion of the home is scheduled for late Spring of ‘24.
The lead sponsors of the project are Drexel Building Supply and Sargento Foods. Other major sponsors include Unity Spiritual Center, Sartori Company, US Bank Foundation, Wisconsin Public Service Foundation, Masters Gallery Foods, Whirlpool, and Wells Fargo Foundation.
More funds will be required in order to finish the project; those interested in supporting can contact Niki Zohrab at 920-458-3399, ext. 302.
