MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A state Senate committee will hold a public hearing Wednesday on Republican bills that would place restrictions on transgender youth athletes.
Both Republican-authored measures have already passed the state Assembly, and both face certain vetoes from Democratic Governor Tony Evers.
One would limit Wisconsin high school athletes to teams that match the gender they were assigned at birth. The second would apply the same restriction to athletes at UW and state technical colleges.
Nearly two dozen states have passed legislation requiring athletes to play on teams that match the gender they were assigned at birth.
