A proposed three-year agreement between the City of Sheboygan and the Sheboygan Professional Police Officers’ Association will be taken up in committee today.
Sheboygan’s Finance and Personnel Committee will meet at 5 p.m. at City Hall to discuss the proposal, which leaves most existing language in place. The agreement would be in effect until the end of 2026. There would be no change in the existing 18-months probationary period for new employees. It also includes longevity pay, preserves retirement eligibility at age 50, with continuing health insurance coverage until that person reaches age 65, or when medicare or other government-sponsored insurance takes over.
As a condition of the agreement, police officers would still be required to live within 45 miles of the city boundaries, could not call a strike, nor could the City lock them out.
Following passage by the Finance and Personnel Committee, the agreement between the City and Police Union would still need passage by the full Council and approval of the Mayor before taking effect.
