Bernice W. Ward (nee Zuengler), age 99, of Plymouth, passed away November 2, 2023, at Rocky Knoll
Health Care Facility, where she had been a resident for the last 15 months.
She was born on July 9, 1924, in Adell, WI, a daughter of the late William Jr. and Laura (Horn) Zuengler.
Bernice attended Emmanuel Lutheran School in Adell, and graduated from Plymouth High School in
1942. She later attended Sheboygan County Normal School and received her Bachelor of Science
Degree from Wisconsin State College-Milwaukee, and her Master of Science Degree from University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Bernice was an Elementary School Teacher for 26 years and a Certified Reading Teacher for 17 years,
teaching most of her career at Parkview Elementary in Plymouth.
On June 11, 1966, she married Armand T. Ward. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1979.
Bernice was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth and was an active member of the GFWC
Plymouth Woman’s Club, serving as their secretary and president, and also served as the Recording
Secretary and President of the 6 th District GFWC Woman’s Club.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, knitting, gardening, playing bridge, and being with her family.
Survivors include: Daughter, Jeanine (Charles) Krupp of Plymouth; Five grandchildren: Amanda (Logan)
McInnis of Missoula, MT, Nick (Nicky) Ward of New Berlin, Aaron Krupp (Courtney Stelter) of Neenah,
Gretchen (Andy) Bohnhoff of Platteville, and Regan (Haley) Krupp of Milwaukee; 10 Great-
grandchildren; Cousin, Jane Zuengler (Jim Gray) of Madison; As well as many other relatives and friends.
Bernice was preceded in death by: Her parents; Husband, Armand; and Son, Terry Ward.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday (November 7, 2023) at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth.
Visitation will take place from 3:00-4:30 PM, with a service to follow at 4:30 PM. Rev. John Schultz,
Pastor of St. John Lutheran, will officiate. Burial will be in the Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Bernice’s name to Plymouth Intergenerational Center or
Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
