The drought that’s gripped Sheboygan County, along with many surrounding Wisconsin counties, is officially over according to the National Integrated Drought Information System…more easily referred to as Drought.gov. According to that division of NOAA – the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration – conditions for Sheboygan County have improved from “Abnormally Dry” to “No Drought”. This validates a Climate Prediction Center forecast released on October 31st that drought conditions would not develop here.
Conditions improved despite September falling just over 2” short of normal precipitation. However, more bountiful late-summer and early-autumn rains have helped offset dry conditions that took over in April, leaving Sheboygan County only .79” below normal precipitation for the year.
Going forward, there’s no evidence either way that deviates from a normal moisture situation in the short term.
