An anonymous donation is making it easier for participants in Sheboygan County’s Alternative to Incarceration program to get to and from their required destinations. The donation came in the form of 240 day passes for rides on the Sheboygan Metro bus system. With each pass valued at three dollars, that’s a $720 donation.
The Alternative to Incarceration program, also known as an Electronic Monitoring Program, is offered to certain offenders as an alternative to spending time in jail. Many of those participants have had driving privileges revoked or don’t have transportation to get to and from work and appointments. The passes will make it possible for those persons to “keep with the program” and hopefully to a successful release to full freedom.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, which reported the donation on social media on Wednesday, said the gift couldn’t have come at a better time, considering the wintry downturn the weather took on Halloween. Reaction by readers to the donation was a universal and heartfelt “thank you”, with one saying that it restored their faith in humanity.
