As if to say “BOO!” in her own, special way, Mother Nature has bestowed her touch on the Halloween landscape with a surprisingly generous covering of snow.
At 1:30 this afternoon the National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory, to be in effect from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. this Tuesday. Along with 1-3 inches of snow, north winds gusting to 25 miles an hour will reduce visibilities as low as 1/4 mile. Both Sheboygan and Ozaukee Counties were included in the advisory. Another advisory covered Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha Counties from 3 until 8 p.m.
Of chief concern was the threat posed to afternoon and rush-hour traffic due to the brisk winds which, combined with vigorous snowfall rates, can reduce both visibility and traction with little warning. Bridges and overpasses will be especially vulnerable to icing conditions. The NWS advised to plan on reduced visibilities and slippery road conditions through the afternoon and evening commutes.
