A small plane has crashed into a pond north of Manitowoc according to the National Transportation Safety Board. Fox-11 in Green Bay reports that the plane was reported missing on Wednesday, and was found today near Rockwood Road, or approximately six miles north of the City of Manitowoc. A property owner there told Fox 11 that he heard a crash at around 7 p.m. Wednesday. After the person investigated but found nothing, he assumed the noise came from a nearby business. A retired Sheriff’s deputy who was a neighbor called this morning, prompting the repeat search. This time the property owner found the plane nose-down in a pond in about 18 feet of water. One person died in the crash. The owner said that it appeared that the plane hit some trees.
An NTSB investigation remained underway on Thursday, but no further information was available.Credit WLUK-Emily Matesic
