The Communications Officer for the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office has been honored in Madison as the 2023 First Responder of the Year for Wisconsin’s 26th Assembly District. Representative Terry Katsma announced the recipient as Officer Michael Brungraber, saying of him that “His passion and tireless commitment to serve in many roles throughout our local community make this award well-deserved.”
Of his 37 years in the public safety field, 22 of those have been in Sheboygan County where Brungraber has served as an EMT and Communications Officer for both the Sheriff’s Office and Orange Cross Ambulance, Emergency Medical Dispatcher and Tactical Emergency Medical Service Director for the Sheriff; an EMS Captain at Town of Sheboygan Fire Department, a Sheboygan County Drone Team member, and a Rescue Task Force Leader. Brungraber also serves on three Honor Guards in Wisconsin to remember those who have died in the line of duty.
Katsma concluded his remarks by noting that “Brungraber’s decisive actions have saved hundreds of lives in the field…He’s delivered 17 babies in the field…” and is a “…vital asset to public safety in Sheboygan County.”
