
Mary A. Schoemer, age 86 of Sheboygan passed away peacefully on Sunday,
October 8, 2023, at Pine Haven Disciple Home after a courageous battle with
cancer. Mary was born March 10, 1937, in Sheboygan to the late Albert and Stella
(Bittner) Wehner. Mary attended Holy Name of Jesus Parish Elementary School
and graduated in 1954 from North High School. On November 25, 1967, Mary was
united in marriage to Tom Schoemer at Holy Name of Jesus Church and happily
celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2017. Over the years Mary enjoyed her many
employment experiences doing secretarial work. She was employed at St. Nicholas
Hospital in admitting, Citizens Bank of Sheboygan in Human Resources and
Payroll Departments, Sheboygan Area School District as a Substitute
Secretary, and Marsho Family Medical as a receptionist in the X-Ray Department.
Mary was a current member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, a former member of
the funeral choir at St. Dominic, a former Food Pantry volunteer at St. Dominic,
and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for over 40 years. Mary enjoyed
participating in various exercise classes, walking “the route” in her neighborhood,
biking, and hiking. She was an avid Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers, and
Milwaukee Bucks fan. Over the years Mary and Tom traveled all over the United
States including Alaska and Hawaii as well as many European destinations. Mary
was extremely dedicated to her family. She especially loved attending anything that
involved her grandchildren. They were so very special to her and brightened her
days. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Sara (James) Opgenorth of
Sheboygan, grandchildren Evan Opgenorth and Anna Opgenorth. She is also
blessed to be survived by many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tom, sister Alberta
(LeRoy) Piontkowski, brothers Maury (Laury) Wehner and Dan (Marianne)
Wehner. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 16,
2023, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 2136 N. 21st Street,
Sheboygan. Family and friends may gather at St. Dominic from 10:00 a.m. until
the time of Mass at 12:00 p.m. Entombment will take place in the Calvary
Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, if you choose, please donate to The
Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund, Sheboygan County Meals on Wheels, or a
cause close to you in Mary’s name. Our family would like to thank family and
friends for all of the support, encouragement, and love you have given to Mary
throughout the course of her life. Our family would also like to thank the doctors

the caring staff at Disciple Home at Pine Haven; and Michelle and the nurses and
