Summer has been over for almost two weeks if judged only by the calendar, but summer weather has been slow to leave. That all changes now as some genuinely autumn-like weather is poised to seize control of the climate.
It’s been more than two weeks since we’ve experienced nighttime temperatures below 50 degrees. We’ll be no warmer than the low 50s at best by the weekend, with nighttime lows at times dipping into the 30s by Sunday night, and wind chills could be below freezing at times.
The growing season doesn’t end until the first killing frost, and that’s not in the forecast – at least not in the near-term, so for now your flowers and vegetables have some time left. But with the average date of the first frost in Sheboygan coming on October 17th, it only a matter of time before their time is up.
