A new update from the National Weather Service says that the nearly 6-month-long drought is done and unlikely to return to Sheboygan County for now. Drought set in this past April and gradually improved during August. Over the last month, data shows a 26 percent reduction in the number of persons experiencing drought in Sheboygan County and, following the 32nd wettest August on Record, no portion of the county is experiencing drought, though soils are still abnormally dry.
Rains, although not uniform, statistically put us almost nine-tenths (.88) of an inch above normal precipitation for this point of the year, and forecasters say that drought is unlikely to return during the remainder of 2023.
Sheboygan, along with other lakeshore counties to the south, are all out-of-the-woods, so to speak, while counties to our north and west show at least a partial drought. Statewide, a majority of counties still have significant drought conditions, with the worst affecting portions of the southwest where some counties are now experiencing an “exceptional” drought.
